New Delhi:

Banned kite strings, widely known as Chinese Manjha, have claimed one more life in Delhi. Twenty-two-year-old businessman Yash Goswami was on his scooter on the Rani Jhansi flyover in north Delhi when a kite string slashed his neck and he fell off the two-wheeler. He was rushed to a hospital, but was declared dead.

The incident occurred on Friday evening when Yash, who ran a shop of e-rickshaw spare parts in Karol Bagh, was returning home. When the two-wheeler was on the flyover, the manjha of a kite slashed Yash’s neck and he fell from the scooter. By the time he was rushed to the hospital, he was dead.Police reached the spot shortly after the incident and started an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to find out who was flying the kite.

Yash’s brother, Amit Goswami, demanded that the Delhi government ensure an effective ban on Chinese manjha. “How can anything that endangers lives be a pastime? People are dying every year, but the government is not doing enough. My brother was like my son, and he is no more,” he said.

Chinese manjha is a menace that has been claiming lives in the national capital and elsewhere for years now. In July 2022, a biker died after a Chinese manjha injured him on Haiderpur flyover. A month later, another biker died of injuries due to a manjha on Shashtri Park flyover, followed by a similar incident on the Nathu Colony flyover. Chinese manjha killed a seven-year-old in July 2023 in Paschim Vihar. A cop was among two people injured in a similar incident on August 15 last year.

Police have been conducting raids against those making and selling Chinese Manjha. Over 1,000 rolls of Chinese manjha have been seized and two people have been arrested in this connection yesterday. But despite police action, Chinese manjha continues to make its way to the market and claim lives

A 24-year-old Indian woman who arrived in the United States for a reported arranged marriage has gone missing, authorities have said.

Simran Simran was last seen shortly after her arrival from India in New Jersey on June 20. Surveillance footage reviewed by Lindenwold police showed her checking her phone and seemingly waiting for someone. Officers said she did not appear to be in distress in the video.

Ms Simran was reported missing on Wednesday, five days after her arrival, police confirmed. Officials investigating her disappearance said a preliminary probe revealed she travelled to the US for an arranged marriage. 

Authorities are also exploring the possibility that the marriage was an excuse to obtain free airfare to America, as per The NY Post.

New Delhi:

Three persons, two of them women, died and 10 others were injured in a stampede during the Rath Yatra in Odisha’s Puri. The incident occurred when the three Raths carrying idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Shubhadra were near Shree Gundicha Temple, about three kilometres from Jagannath temple, where the Yatra began.

Around 4.30 am today, the holy chariots were at the Gundicha temple and a large crowd had gathered for a darshan. As the crowd swelled, some people fell and a stampede began. Three people died on the spot. These include two women, Prabhati Das and Basanti Sahu, and 70-year-old Premakant Mohanty. All three, it is learnt, are from Khurda district and had come to Puri for the Rath Yatra.

Local media reported that the police’s arrangement for crowd control at the spot was inadequate. The condition of some of those injured is critical, according to reports.

Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain said the bodies of the victims had been sent for autopsy and the examination would reveal the exact cause of death. He said adequate security arrangements were in place, but the crowd suddenly went out of control, leading to the tragedy.

Ileana D’Cruz welcomed her second child, a baby boy, with husband Michael Dolan on June 19. Now, the actress has finally shared the happy news on Instagram with a sweet picture of her little one. The couple named their son Keanu Rafe Dolan. 

The photo features a monochrome postcard of Keanu Rafe Dolan sleeping cosily, wrapped in a towel. He wears a cute cap too. The text layout in the image read, “Introducing Keanu Rafe Dolan. Born on June 19, 2025.” 

Ileana D’Cruz also tagged Michael Dolan in the post. Her side note read, “Our hearts are so full. (red heart, sparkles and evil eye emojis).”

About Kalki 2898 AD

Nag Ashwin’s Telugu mythological sci-fi film was one of his most ambitious projects yet. Other than Big B, the film also had Deepika Padukone and Prabhas in key roles.

Set against the backdrop of a dystopian future, it was the first film in the  Kalki Cinematic Universe.

Nag Ashwin had shared details of Kalki 2898 AD’s sequel that it is set to go on floors in December 2025, at the re-release event of his debut directorial Yevade Subramanyam.

Mumbai:

The ‘Kaanta Laga’ fame Shefali Jariwala died in Mumbai late Friday. She was rushed to the Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital by her husband, but was declared dead by doctors. She was 42.

The cause of death has not yet been disclosed by her family members.

The body has been taken to the Cooper Hospital for postmortem. The police are at Shefali’s house, questioning cook and househlp. 

Shefali Jariwala gained stardom after she appeared in the song ‘Kaanta Laga’ in 2002, which became a pop culture sensation.

She later became a household name with her participation in Bigg Boss 13, where her confidence and clarity stood out.

Ms Jariwala also appeared in the 2004 film ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra.

She also appeared on dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye’ seasons 5 and 7, along with her husband, Parag Tyagi, whom she married in 2015.

The actress’s sudden death has left the entertainment industry and her fans in deep shock and heartbroken.

I guess that turned out to be her last music video… Now I sit here thinking… I wish we had done more. Spent more time. Made more memories. Friends, life is short. Don’t wait. Call your loved ones. Shefali Jariwala of Kaanta Laga fame has passed away at the age of 42. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed by her family members.

The body was taken to Cooper Hospital for postmortem. The police were at Shefali’s house, questioning the cook and house help.

Latest updates say that the postmortem is done, and reports will be out soon. Mortal remains have been brought to Shefali Jariwala’s residence.

Shefali Jariwala was rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital by her husband, Parag Tyagi, where she was declared dead on arrival. 

Visuals from outside the hospital showed Parag in tears. The family has not released an official statement yet.

Forensic teams had also visited her residence for further investigation.
