  • Jennie and Lisa are not perfect. But in a world that demands female idols be angels in Chanel heels, their unapologetic selfhood is a quiet revolution.

Agencies tightly control every aspect of an idol’s life – from diet and wardrobe to speech and social interactions. Dating is often forbidden, controversial topics are taboo, and a single “wrong” move can invite the wrath of a hyper-engaged public.

The Korean entertainment industry’s infamous cancel culture, coupled with the vigilant gaze of conservative netizens, ensures that even perceived transgressions invite boycotts, cyberbullying and PR crises.

    The Culture Of Cancellation

Unlike in the West, where fans often separate art from the artist, Korea’s celebrity culture is built on inseong, a concept that blends morality, image and public duty. K-pop idols are viewed as national representatives and role models, making personal transgressions feel like public betrayals.

Cancellation in this context is swift and brutal. A whiff of impropriety – be it vaping indoors, dating, wearing the wrong costume, or being too expressive – can erase years of goodwill.New Delhi:

What do you get when you mix scandal, sequins, cultural backlash and global stardom? A BLACKPINK member navigating the treacherous lanes of K-pop idolhood while refusing to colour within the lines.

Once upon a time, and still, to some extent, K-pop idols were expected to be as flawless as their complexion, as docile as their curated interviews and as controversy-free as their airbrushed social media feeds.

But in a world where image is everything and missteps can be career-ending, BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Lisa have become fascinating studies in rebellion. They’re not just pushing boundaries; they’re obliterating them and, in doing so, perhaps rewriting the K-pop manual itself.

    The ‘Ideal Idol’ Manual

The ‘ideal idol’ is less of a person and more of a prototype. South Korea’s entertainment industry has long expected its idols to embody a specific image: wholesome, obedient, modest, humble and scandal-free.

  • This saga includes The Batman (2022) and the Max series spin-off The Penguin

    Washington:

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has expressed his annoyance with the intense scrutiny surrounding ‘The Batman II’, directed by Matt Reeves.

Despite the film’s delayed production, Gunn remains optimistic about the project, emphasising the importance of allowing Reeves the time he needs to craft a quality screenplay.

As per Deadline, in an interview, Gunn revealed that DC Studios is expecting to receive the script for ‘The Batman II’ in June.

“We’re supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt’s excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I’m totally excited about it,” he said, as quoted by Deadline.

Gunn bluntly stated that fans should be patient and not pressure Reeves. “People should get off Matt’s n–s because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie.”

He added that Reeves doesn’t let the pressure affect him.

Gunn’s ‘Superman’ film, set to premiere on July 11, will launch a new DCU phase, separate from Reeves’ ‘Batman Epic Crime Saga’.

This saga includes ‘The Batman’ (2022) and the Max series spin-off ‘The Penguin’.

Reeves confirmed that ‘The Batman II’ will start filming this year, with Robert Pattinson set to reprise his role as Batman.

Despite the delay, fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel, which is currently scheduled to premiere on October 1, 2027.

  • Its A “Carpe Diem” Kind Of Day For Shilpa Shetty In A White Bikini And Mermaid Skirt

Shilpa Shetty has earned the tag of Bollywood’s OG fashionista. Exquisite sarees to pretty dresses – she nails every style statement with unparalleled poise. The actress, who is celebrating her birthday weekend at Hvar Island in Croatia, has treated fans to her tropical sartorial avatar.

Shilpa Shetty leaned on an all-white ensemble as she struck some alluring poses against the pristine seascape. She wore a fitted bralette with ribbed details all over. The stand-out part was the single sleeve element, which went across her shoulder. The fabric wrapped around her neck created a scarf-like feature, adding a dose of unconventionality to beachwear.

The 50-year-old teamed the risque number with a figure-hugging mermaid skirt. The gathered details around the waist had all our attention. But it was the frilly details cascading in length and grazing the floor that screamed drama.

Shilpa Shetty proved that risque is her middle name as she carried the two-piece outfit with absolute confidence. In one snap, she waved a long tassled strip of cloth in her hand, leaving us guessing how she would have preferred to style it.

For accessories, Shilpa Shetty kept it chic. Stacked bracelets, statement rings and a pink, diamond-encrusted heart-shaped pendant served modern elegance. Uber-cool red-tinted shades added a pop of colour to her monochrome coastal style.

When at sea, sunscreen becomes your best friend while makeup remains subtle. Shilpa Shetty followed the rule. She opted for a light blush on the cheeks and a soft shade of pink lipstick. Generous coats of mascara on her fluttery lashes gave a curled-up effect. Well-groomed and arched eyebrows sealed her natural glam.

For the finishing touches, Shilpa Shetty left her coloured tresses open in waves. She let the sea breeze play with her hair as they flew wildly.

If you are heading for a beach vacation, we bet you will turn to Shilpa Shetty for some useful fashion advice, and this post is evidence.

Shilpa Shetty recently celebrated her 50th birthday in Croatia, with her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, her sister Shamita Shetty and her family. However, earlier today an Instagram user shared a video of the family amid celebrations, which recorded the Dhadkan actress fighting with a “foreigner”, who complained about them being loud.

    • The Instagrammer who had shared the video online, captioned it, “This incident occurred today (9.06.2025) in Hvar Island, Croatia. • Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 7: Kamal Haasan’s Film Struggles, Mints Rs 42 Crore In Week 1

Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life has witnessed a dip at the Indian box office. The Mani Ratnam film has minted Rs 1.25 crore on day 7, June 11.

With this, the total collection of Thug Life stands at Rs 42.25 crore, reported Sacnilk

The film, which was released on June 5, faced tough competition from Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 at the box office.

Thug Life saw an “overall 15.57% Tamil Occupancy,” the report added. The film has been backed by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies.

Trisha Krishnan, T.R. Silambarasan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, and Mahesh Manjrekar are also part of the film.

Kamal Haasan collaborated with Main Ratnam after 38 years for Thug Life. They last film together was Nayakan in 1987.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter India,  Kamal Haasan opened up about his admiration for Mani Ratnam.

“We both wrote the lm together. When I say we wrote it together, it’s not the noise of two pens scribbling together. I nished what I perceived would be a good lm to make. I nished a script, and it was called ‘Amar Hai’, which is a pun. A man who is believed to be dead is not dead. His name is ‘Amar’, and that is the problem. I had etched it, and then Mani took it as an idea and went on to embellish it,” he said.

Film critic Saibal Chatterjee, in his NDTV review, gave Thug Life 2 stars. He said. “Thug Life isn’t quite the kind of film that you expect to be a huge disappointment. In an era in which scepticism, even trepidation, precedes the decision to watch a movie that has blockbuster aspirations, a Mani Ratnam movie, no matter what genre it belongs to, is usually an exception. It generates both anticipation and excitement.”
